How to tell how far you are in pregnancy?

I recently missed my period and my pregnancy test was positive. My last period was quite irregular, so I'm not sure how to calculate my due date. How can I figure out approximately how many weeks pregnant I am?

It can be so confusing to calculate at first! Usually, you count from the very first day of your last period, even though you weren't actually pregnant then. But honestly, getting that first ultrasound done is the best way to know the exact week.

When my wife was pregnant, the hospital staff explained that calculating by dates is just an estimate. They scheduled a dating ultrasound in the first trimester which gave us the precise week and due date. I highly recommend asking your doctor clearly during your next checkup.

Instead of wasting hours on different pregnancy app calculators, just book a quick appointment with your obstetrician. A simple dating scan takes ten minutes and gives you the exact gestational age so you can plan your work calendar and checkups efficiently.

I was just researching this for my sister and found out that pregnancy is actually calculated as 40 weeks starting from the LMP. It sounds a bit counter-intuitive since conception happens later, but that's how medical pros do it before the scan.

With both my pregnancies, my cycles were irregular, so counting weeks from my last period was totally off. The only reliable way was the first trimester ultrasound. Don't worry too much about the math right now, just focus on eating healthy and see your gynecologist.

Please don't delay your first prenatal visit by trying to calculate things online. I once ignored early signs of a health issue and really regretted it later when things got complicated. Go to a proper clinic, get your blood tests and scan done on time.

I remember staring at my calendar for hours, feeling so anxious and confused about the exact dates. It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed during these early weeks. Just take a deep breath and let the doctor do a scan, which will give you the clarity you need.
