Please be extremely careful when applying anything tight or adhesive to your belly during pregnancy. I tried doing this in my second trimester and it caused severe skin irritation and mild uterine contractions due to the pressure. Do not try this without speaking to your obstetrician first.
I just gave birth last month and used kinesiology tape for my heavy belly in the third trimester. I applied two strips starting from the lower belly, lifting upwards towards the ribs. It gave my lower back so much relief, but make sure you use sensitive-skin tape!
I know the back pain in the third trimester is absolutely exhausting, but please don't experiment with heavy taping yourself. If you want to try it, ask your husband to help you apply it very gently without pulling the skin too tight. Your safety and the baby's comfort come first.
I ignored severe back pain during my first pregnancy, thinking it was just the weight, but it turned out to be a severe kidney issue that I ignored until it became an emergency. Please don't just tape it up and ignore the pain; get your doctor to check you properly first.
For pregnancy belly support, run one strip of KT tape horizontally under your bump from one side to the other with moderate stretch to 'lift' the belly. Then, run two vertical strips from your hips up to support the weight. If your skin is sensitive, rub some baby oil to remove it gently.
Taping can definitely help lift the bump and reduce load on your lower back. Along with the tape, try doing gentle pelvic tilts on a yoga ball if your doctor allows. Strengthening your glutes and hamstrings safely during pregnancy also helps manage that extra weight.
My sister was complaining about severe back strain during her pregnancy, and I was reading up on this. It seems 'belly mapping' with kinesiology tape is quite popular abroad, but many Indian doctors actually suggest using a proper pregnancy support belt instead as it is easier to adjust.

Oh, that heavy belly feeling is real! 😭 Try applying a 'U' shape tape under your bump to give it a nice little lift. It feels like someone is holding your tummy up for you and instantly relieves the lower back pressure. Take care! 💕
At Apollo, the physiotherapists strictly advise against self-taping during pregnancy because improper tension can affect blood circulation. Please ask your gynecologist to refer you to an antenatal physical therapist who can apply it safely for you.
The body goes through so many beautiful changes during pregnancy. Along with gentle support tape, practicing safe prenatal stretching and deep breathing can help release the tension in your back muscles naturally. Let your body rest as much as it asks for.
