How to sleep with curly hair without a bonnet?

I have curly hair and everyone says to use a bonnet, but I find them really uncomfortable. Is there any way to sleep with curly hair without having to wear a bonnet? My hair gets so frizzy otherwise!

I lost my satin bonnet during a trip last week and had to improvise. I just gathered all my hair at the very top of my head and tied it in a super loose 'pineapple' with a silk scarf I had. My curls survived perfectly without any frizz the next day!

If you are avoiding a bonnet due to scalp sweat or itching, please get your scalp checked by a dermatologist for any fungal infection. Otherwise, you can safely use a clean silk pillowcase to prevent curl friction without wrapping your head.

I track my sleep cycles and wearing anything tight on my head like a bonnet actually reduces my deep sleep quality due to discomfort. Switched to a premium silk pillowcase instead. It works great for curly hair friction and my sleep score has improved too!

Bonnets make my head too hot at night, so I stopped using them. Now I just do two loose French braids before sleeping. It keeps my waves and curls defined, and in the morning I just shake them out with a bit of hair oil.

I totally get it, wearing a bonnet can feel hot and uncomfortable, especially during summers. A great alternative is to buy a pure satin or silk pillowcase. It lets your scalp breathe while keeping your curls completely frizz-free.

I am new to curly hair care and bonnets look a bit uncomfortable to wear all night. Can we just use a normal cotton scarf to wrap the hair loosely, or will that also cause frizz and dryness?

If bonnets cause you tension headaches, it is best to avoid them. Dermatologists often suggest sleeping on silk pillowcases as they don't strip moisture from your hair shafts. A loose braid with a satin scrunchie at the end is a highly recommended practice.
