How to sleep with curly hair?

Managing my curly hair overnight is a constant struggle. I wake up with it looking like a bird's nest! What are some effective ways to sleep so my curly hair doesn't get tangled or lose its shape?

At 50, trying to manage my curly hair is more exhausting than my joint pain! I've found that doing a loose 'pineapple' ponytail on top of my head is the only way to not look like a wild woman in the morning. Try it, it saves a lot of combing energy.

Curly hair needs gentle care so it doesn't break at night. Tell your sister or try it yourself: switch your cotton pillowcases to satin or silk immediately. Cotton absorbs all the moisture and causes friction, which ruins the curls and causes breakage.

I used to hate my curls because they would get so matted and frizzy at night, and I felt so ugly waking up. It took me years to realize that just sleeping with a silk bonnet makes a huge difference. You are not alone in this struggle, it gets easier once you find a routine.

My wife has these crazy maggi-like curls and her nighttime hair routine is longer than my dinner prep! She puts her hair up in a very loose high bun using a soft cloth scrunchie. It works perfectly and doesn't squash her curls while she sleeps.

While keeping an eye on my health and diet, I also had to learn about hair care due to diabetes-related hair thinning. For curly hair, sleeping on a silk pillowcase reduces friction drastically. Avoiding tight bands at night prevents hair root stress, keeping the hair healthy.
