How to sleep for better posture?

I've been having a lot of back pain recently, and my physiotherapist suggested it might be due to my sleeping posture. What's the best way to sleep to maintain a good posture and avoid further pain?

Namaste. For better posture, sleeping on your back is generally recommended, with a thin pillow under your head and a small one under your knees to support the natural curve of your spine. Regular gentle stretching and pranayama also help improve overall body awareness and posture.

My mother used to say, 'Sleep like a log, straight and still.' While that's a bit strict, sleeping on your back with proper support for your neck and lower back can make a big difference. If you have persistent pain, it's wise to consult a doctor, as they can guide you best.

I'm new to thinking about this, but I've noticed my posture is not great. So sleeping position affects it too? What about side sleeping? Is that bad for posture if I use a pillow between my knees?

Oh, I totally get this struggle. I tried so many things! What worked for me was actually making sure my pillow wasn't too high or too flat. Also, trying to fall asleep on my back, even if I move later, helps. A small rolled towel under the neck can sometimes give good support too. Don't force yourself into uncomfortable positions though.

I used to wake up with so much back pain due to bad posture. The best thing I did was invest in a good mattress and a supportive pillow. Sleeping on your side is okay if you place a pillow between your knees and hug another one to keep your spine aligned. Avoid stomach sleeping at all costs!
