How to safely co sleep with baby?

My wife and I are thinking about co-sleeping with our baby, especially since our baby struggles to sleep alone. We want to ensure we do it right and minimize any risks. What are the safe practices for how to safely co-sleep with a baby?

Don't worry too much, co-sleeping can be done safely if you follow a few strict rules. Make sure the mattress is firm, pull the heavy blankets away from the baby, and never let the baby sleep between you and the wall where they could get trapped. Keep them on the outside with a proper bed guard.

I know how sweet it is to snuggle with the baby, but safety comes first. I always make sure my baby is on her back, wearing light cotton clothes so she doesn't overheat. We also removed our plush mattress topper because it was too soft for her.

I used to feel so guilty and judged by people online for wanting to sleep with my baby, it really affected me emotionally. But for my sanity, I had to do it. I just made the bed as bare and safe as possible, keeping pillows far away from her face.

Managing my PCOS made me a bit of an over-planner with everything, including baby care. While co-sleeping is natural, I always kept a small travel bassinet on the bed to ensure a clear boundary. Just be cautious and do what feels safest for your little one.

In our home, we chose to use a bedside crib that aligns perfectly with our bed height. This way, my wife could easily reach the baby for night feeds, but the baby still had his own safe, flat space to sleep without any risk of us rolling over him.
