How to reverse weight gain from antipsychotics?

Been taking antipsychotic medication for a while now, and I've gained a lot of weight. It's really affecting my confidence and making me feel low. How can I safely reverse this weight gain caused by the medication?

Hey, please don't stress too much about the weight gain right now. Your mental health is the absolute priority, and these medicines are doing an important job. We can slowly work on the weight by drinking more water, having fiber-rich snacks, and going for comfortable evening walks together. You're doing great, okay?

Managing these medication side effects along with general age issues makes me feel like my body is playing a joke on me! Antipsychotics can really slow down metabolism and increase hunger. My strategy is just keeping healthy snacks like roasted makhana nearby so I don't eat oily things when the sudden cravings hit.

I completely understand how frustrating this weight gain can be. Please talk to your psychiatrist openly as they can sometimes adjust the dosage or switch you to a more weight-neutral option.

Since antipsychotics can affect how your body processes sugars and fats, focusing on a clean, low-glycemic vegetarian diet is very helpful. Try to fill your plate with high-protein sprouts, salads, and curd, which keep you full for longer and reduce the urge to overeat. Avoid processed foods and sugary juices completely.

I go to a reputed hospital in Delhi, and my consultant there was very helpful when I raised concerns about my weight gain. He coordinate with a clinical dietician to prepare a specific metabolic plan for me. Do not hesitate to ask your psychiatrist clearly about weight-neutral alternatives or supportive plans.

I literally freaked out when I put on 12 kilos in just three months of starting my meds and wanted to stop taking them. But my doctor explained it's just increased appetite and metabolic changes, and assured me we could manage it. Once I started tracking my calories and walking daily, the weight gain stopped and slowly started reversing.

You can try drinking warm lemon-ginger water or herbal teas to help boost your digestion and metabolism naturally. However, if you experience sudden extreme weight changes, heavy swelling, or difficulty breathing, please do not rely on home tips. Inform your prescribing doctor immediately as they need to evaluate your physical health.

Haan na, these psychiatric medicines are very necessary but they do make us gain weight, ho na. My cousin was also facing this and she felt very low about her looks. She slowly started doing mild yoga and portion control, and it really helped her feel lighter and happier. Have patience, things will improve.
