How to relieve shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery at home?

I had laparoscopic surgery a few days ago, and I'm experiencing significant shoulder pain, which the doctor said is normal due to gas. What are some effective ways to relieve shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery at home?

The shoulder pain you are feeling after laparoscopy is actually caused by the carbon dioxide gas used during surgery irritating your diaphragm. Don't worry, it's very common. The best way to get rid of it is to walk slowly around your house to help your body absorb the gas, and sleep in a slightly upright position.

Beta, after any surgery, the body becomes very weak and sensitive. For this shoulder pain, drink warm water or light ginger tea to help your digestion and gas movement. Do not apply heavy pressure or massage the shoulder, just keep yourself warm and rest in a comfortable chair.

I tried many things when my daughter had this pain after her surgery. Drinking warm fennel (saunf) water helps soothe the stomach gas, which eventually reduces the shoulder pressure. Also, gently placing a warm gel pack on the collarbone area brings very comforting relief.

I totally get it, nobody warns you about the shoulder pain after stomach surgery and it can actually hurt more than the actual incisions! It is so frustrating and uncomfortable. Try using a warm compress on your shoulder and take very slow, gentle walks around the room to help release that trapped gas.

I had this exact gas pain after my gallbladder laparoscopy; walking slowly for 5 minutes every hour is the only thing that actually helps.

While mild shoulder pain from gas is normal, I had severe pain that turned out to be a post-op complication. Please monitor your breathing and check if you have any fever or redness around your stitches. If the shoulder pain is excruciating or if you feel short of breath, don't wait at home—contact your surgeon immediately.

I remember panicking so badly after my surgery thinking something went wrong because my shoulder was throbbing. Your anxiety is completely normal, but please know this pain is a known side effect of the gas used. Try to relax, keep your head elevated, and take slow, deep breaths to calm your nervous system.

Since you cannot do any physical yoga postures right after surgery, focus entirely on slow, conscious breathing (Pranayama). Taking deep, gentle inhalations and slow exhalations helps the body eliminate the surgical gas naturally. Keep your body relaxed and do not strain your abdominal area at all.

My sister had this after her appendix surgery and she was crying because of the shoulder pain. The doctor told us it's just carbon dioxide gas pressure. We made her sit propped up with three pillows in bed instead of lying down, and it really helped her sleep better.

It sounds crazy that stomach surgery makes your shoulder hurt, right? Our body's wiring is so funny! Just do a slow penguin walk around your living room to get that gas moving. It will pass in a couple of days, just avoid lying flat like a log.
