How to relieve pregnancy carpal tunnel?

Ever since I got pregnant, my hands and wrists have been feeling numb and tingly, especially at night. My doctor said it could be carpal tunnel. Any tips for managing this pain while expecting?

My wife's fingers used to get super numb and tingly in the mornings during her eighth month. I got her some basic wrist splints from the chemist to wear while sleeping so her wrists didn't bend. It worked like a charm and the numbness went down a lot.

Oh god, that annoying tingling in the hands is so frustrating, na! Don't stress too much, it is mostly just fluid retention and usually vanishes right after delivery. For now, try shaking your hands gently when they feel numb and avoid sleeping on your arms.

Having PCOS made my pregnancy journey a bit complicated with extra swelling. I had mild carpal tunnel too, and my doctor suggested keeping my hands elevated on pillows whenever I was resting. Just make sure to mention it to your doctor to be safe.

Sleep is already a joke when you are expecting, and then this hand numbness kicks in to make it a comedy. Honestly, I spent half my night adjusting pillows for my wife so her hands wouldn't go numb. Just hang in there, it is a temporary phase!

In our days, we used to reduce salt in our food slightly if we got swelling and hand pain during pregnancy. Excess salt holds water and presses on your wrist nerves. Drink plenty of water and don't do heavy kitchen work that strains your fingers.

Same here, the wrist splints worked wonders for my night pain. Keeping your hands warm also helps reduce the morning stiffness.

While wrist exercises and braces can help manage the symptoms, it is always best to consult your OB-GYN first. They can evaluate if the nerve compression is due to standard water retention or something else, and advise safe therapies.

If your job involves typing all day, use an ergonomic keyboard and take a 5-minute typing break every hour. I had to suggest this to my colleague who was struggling with pregnancy carpal tunnel. Stretching your fingers at your desk really keeps the stiffness away.

I am in my fifth month and my fingers have just started aching and tingling in the mornings. I didn't know this could happen during pregnancy too. Does using warm water or ice packs help with the wrist pain, or should I avoid that?

Please don't just ignore the numbness thinking it is normal pregnancy fatigue. My sister ignored her severe hand weakness and it made basic tasks very difficult later on. Let your doctor know so they can check your blood pressure and swelling properly.
