How to prevent strep b in pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and my doctor just mentioned testing for Strep B, saying it's important to prevent infection in the baby. I'm not entirely clear on what it is. What steps can I take to prevent Strep B in pregnancy?

Strep B in pregnancy? I'm not very familiar with this. Is it a common thing? How do they even check for it? I'm just starting to plan for a baby so this is all new.

While my expertise is diabetes, I know for any pregnancy complication, regular medical care is paramount. You need to follow your gynaecologist's instructions strictly. They usually do tests around the third trimester for Strep B and will prescribe antibiotics if needed to protect the baby.

Hey sweetie, don't stress too much about Strep B! Your doctor will test you for it in your third trimester, it's pretty standard. If you're positive, they'll just give you antibiotics during labor to keep the baby safe. So just make sure you go to all your prenatal appointments, okay? That's the best prevention!

I was just reading about this! From what I understand, doctors test for Group B Strep (GBS) around 35-37 weeks of pregnancy. If you test positive, they usually give you IV antibiotics during labor to prevent it from passing to the baby. It's not something you can prevent with home remedies, just regular medical care.

Beti, in pregnancy, it's very important to listen to the doctor. They will do all the necessary tests. We used to say eat good ghee and turmeric, but for such specific things, only the doctors know. Don't worry, just follow their instructions for your and baby's safety.

Listen, this is really important. I had complications during my first pregnancy, and I learned you can't be too careful. For Strep B, your doctor will screen you, and if positive, they'll give you antibiotics during delivery. There's no real 'prevention' you can do at home, just strict adherence to your OB-GYN's plan.
