How to prevent loose skin after weight loss surgery?

I'm considering weight loss surgery, and I've heard that sometimes people get loose skin afterwards. Is there anything I can do, either before or after, to prevent loose skin after weight loss surgery?

For skin elasticity, a diet rich in protein, vitamins (especially C and E), and healthy fats is crucial, even more so after surgery. Make sure your vegetarian meals include plenty of lentils, paneer, nuts, seeds, and leafy greens. Hydration with plain water is also non-negotiable. This supports skin collagen production.

I haven't had weight loss surgery myself, but a close friend did. She focused a lot on strength training *after* the initial recovery. She also used really good quality body creams and stayed super hydrated. She said it helped, but honestly, some loose skin is almost inevitable, and it's a small price for better health, in her opinion.

Managing blood sugar levels well after weight loss surgery is important for overall healing and skin health. Ensure your protein intake is adequate, as protein is vital for skin elasticity. And avoid processed foods and excess sugar, as they can hinder skin recovery. Work closely with your nutritionist for a diet plan that supports both weight management and skin health.

Hi! From a nursing perspective, adequate protein intake is vital for skin repair and elasticity post-surgery. Also, ensure you're drinking plenty of fluids. Gradual, supervised exercise, especially strength training, helps build muscle which can somewhat fill out loose skin. If it becomes a significant concern, plastic surgery is often the most effective solution, which your surgeon can discuss.

For someone with thyroid issues like me, managing weight is already a task. After surgery, it's about meticulous follow-up. Ensuring your protein intake is high, and your micronutrient levels (like Vitamin C, zinc) are optimal will aid skin elasticity. Your doctor might suggest certain supplements or therapies. Regular skin checks are also good to track progress.

It's completely normal to feel worried about loose skin after such a big step like weight loss surgery. It can be a difficult emotional journey, feeling like one challenge is replaced by another. Remember to be kind to yourself. Focus on what you *can* control – like gentle exercises to build muscle, staying hydrated, and nourishing your body. And speak to a therapist or support group if it affects you emotionally.

Woohoo, big changes are awesome! 🎉 For loose skin, think of your body as needing a little extra love. Hydration, good protein, and some gentle resistance exercises as cleared by your doc can help. And remember, your body is incredible for what it's achieved! Embrace the journey! ✨

Having gone through extensive weight loss, I can tell you that some loose skin is almost inevitable, but you can definitely minimize it. Consistent strength training is key to building muscle underneath. Also, use firming creams with ingredients like retinol (if safe) and focus on collagen-rich foods. Hydration is crucial. And if it really bothers you, consult a plastic surgeon for options; it's a valid choice.

Loose skin can be a reality for many after significant weight loss. Practically speaking, focus on building muscle as you lose weight, through resistance training. This fills out some of the space. Also, keep your skin hydrated from outside with good lotions and inside by drinking enough water. But sometimes, some surgical removal is the only option, which is also okay.

You'll find a million 'remedies' online, but honestly, for something as significant as post-surgery loose skin, you need proper medical advice. Talk to your bariatric surgeon or a dermatologist. They can tell you what's realistic and what options (like specific exercises, creams, or even cosmetic procedures) are genuinely effective and safe for *your* body.
