How to minimise stretch marks during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and I'm starting to see some stretch marks appear. My mother said to apply oil daily, but I was wondering what else I can do to minimize them during pregnancy.

Honestly, between waking up three times a night to pee and dealing with backaches, I just slathered random coconut oil on my belly whenever I remembered. Some marks still showed up like tiger stripes, but who has the energy to worry about perfection right now? Just keep the skin hydrated so it doesn't itch!

I am in my fourth month of pregnancy and my belly is just starting to show. Is it better to start applying bio-oil now, or should I wait until the skin actually starts stretching and itching?

Hey babe, don't stress too much about those little marks, they are just proof of the beautiful life you are creating! Just massage some pure almond oil or virgin coconut oil on your belly twice a day to keep it soft and prevent the itching. You are beautiful regardless!

While genetic factors mostly determine stretch marks, keeping the skin's elasticity high helps. Using a good moisturizer containing shea butter or hyaluronic acid can soothe dry, stretching skin. Always confirm with your obstetrician before using any medicated creams, as some ingredients are not safe during pregnancy.

My dermatologist explained that stretch marks happen in the deeper dermis layer, so topical creams can't completely prevent them. However, keeping internally hydrated by drinking plenty of water and applying a thick emollient twice daily helps the skin expand more smoothly. Avoid any products with retinoids during pregnancy.
