How to know if you have an ectopic pregnancy?

I recently found out I'm pregnant, but I've been having some unusual abdominal pain and spotting. My doctor mentioned checking for an ectopic pregnancy, which sounds scary. How does one know if they have an ectopic pregnancy?

It's totally understandable to be worried about something like an ectopic pregnancy, it's a serious concern. While it can mimic some normal pregnancy symptoms, if you experience severe abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, shoulder pain, or dizziness, especially after a positive pregnancy test, please get immediate medical help. Don't sit with the anxiety, get it checked.

Ectopic pregnancy mein na, bahut zyada pet mein dard hota hai, ho na? Aur bleeding bhi ho sakti hai. Shoulder pain bhi hota hai kabhi kabhi. Agar aap pregnant ho aur aise kuch symptoms hain toh jaldi se doctor ke paas jaana chahiye. Bilkul bhi deri mat karna, haan.

My sister-in-law had an ectopic pregnancy. She was pregnant but suddenly had really bad, sharp pain on one side of her lower tummy, and some spotting. She also felt dizzy. We rushed her to the hospital. If you have a positive pregnancy test and these symptoms, go to the emergency room without delay. It's not something to wait on.

I had a scare once with persistent abdominal pain in early pregnancy and immediately thought the worst, like ectopic. It turned out to be just regular pregnancy discomfort, thankfully. But the key symptoms for ectopic are sharp, one-sided abdominal pain, unusual vaginal bleeding, and sometimes shoulder tip pain. If you're pregnant and experience any of these, don't panic but get to the doctor right away to be safe.

An ectopic pregnancy is a medical emergency. While early symptoms can be vague, look out for severe abdominal pain (often on one side), vaginal bleeding, dizziness, fainting, or shoulder pain. These occur because the fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus. Immediate consultation with a gynaecologist is crucial for diagnosis via ultrasound and blood tests, and prompt treatment.
