How to improve kidney function to avoid dialysis?

My brother's kidney disease has progressed, and doctors are talking about dialysis. We want to do everything possible to avoid it or at least delay it. What steps can be taken to improve kidney function significantly to avoid dialysis?

Keeping your body active helps manage blood pressure, which is critical for protecting the kidneys. If your doctor allows it, try to do light walking for 30 minutes daily. Just avoid heavy, exhausting workouts that might put sudden stress on your system.

My grandfather went through this stage. He strictly followed the renal diet plan given by his doctor, especially cutting down on high-potassium foods like bananas and potatoes. It really helped keep his creatinine stable and avoided dialysis.

Keep your hopes high! Many people manage to stay off dialysis for years by being very disciplined with their diet. Swap high-sodium foods for fresh homemade options, drink water exactly as advised by your doctor, and stay positive!

Uncontrolled diabetes is the main reason for kidney failure. I monitor my blood glucose three times a day and avoid all simple sugars and high-glycemic carbs. Keeping your HbA1c under 7 is the best way to protect your kidneys from further damage.

When my mother's creatinine levels went high, we consulted a senior nephrologist at Fortis Hospital. He adjusted her medications and put her on a strict low-protein, low-sodium diet. Please follow your specialist's advice clearly rather than trying home remedies.

I get so anxious reading about kidney issues because it feels so overwhelming. Please don't panic, just take it one day at a time. Make sure you check every single food label for sodium and potassium, and stay in constant touch with your kidney specialist.

Avoiding dialysis requires a coordinated effort between a nephrologist and a renal clinical dietitian. The diet is very specific—you have to limit sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. Don't worry, once you get used to the dietary changes, it becomes a daily routine.

My kidney numbers were borderline dialysis level last year. By strictly limiting my protein intake, controlling my blood pressure, and stopping all pain relievers, my GFR stabilized. It takes absolute discipline with food, but it is definitely possible to delay or avoid dialysis.
