How to help back pain during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and my back pain has started to get really bad, especially by evening. It's making it hard to sleep and walk. What are some safe ways to help back pain during pregnancy?

Using a pregnancy pillow between my knees while sleeping on the side helped me so much. You can also try a light warm compress on the lower back, but please avoid any hot water bags directly on the belly. If the pain gets really sharp or doesn't go away with rest, definitely call your doctor immediately.

Make sure you aren't self-medicating with any pain balms or pills right now, as many aren't safe during pregnancy. Stick to safe physical supports like a body pillow and very light stretching. Keep your doctor updated about the severity of your back pain during your routine checkups.

When I was expecting my daughter, the backache was quite bad. I found that sitting with a small cushion supporting my lower back whenever I was on a chair made a big difference. Please be very careful while getting up from bed; always turn to your side first and then sit up.

My wife had terrible backaches during her second trimester. I used to give her a gentle lower back massage with some warm mustard oil every evening before bed, and it really helped her relax and sleep much better.

Honestly, your posture changes completely as the baby grows, which strains the back muscles. Wear totally flat, supportive footwear and avoid standing in one place for too long. I also wore a mild maternity support belt in my third trimester which was an absolute lifesaver for long walks.

Sometimes mild back pain can worsen if your calcium or vitamin D levels are low, which is common in vegetarian diets. Ask your doctor to check your blood levels and recommend proper prenatal supplements. Eating calcium-rich foods like ragi, paneer, and sesame seeds can also be very beneficial.

Take plenty of rest and don't exert yourself too much during this beautiful phase. Try to put your feet up on a small stool when sitting, and take it one day at a time.
