How to help a child sleep with enlarged tonsils?

My daughter's tonsils are swollen and she's finding it difficult to sleep peacefully. The doctor said it's enlarged tonsils. What can I do to help her sleep comfortably until we decide on further treatment?

With tight office schedules, sleepless nights with a sick kid are hard. Elevating the head of the bed with a couple of towels under the mattress works quickly. Keep some lukewarm water handy on the side table so they can take small sips if they wake up dry.

It is so difficult to see children in pain. Try giving them a little warm water with a tiny bit of honey before bedtime to soothe the throat. I hope your little one feels better soon.

Sending warm hugs to your sweet child! 😊 Try giving them cool foods like a bit of plain yogurt or a cold fruit smoothie in the evening, it really numbs the throat pain so they can drift off to sleep easily.

Our pediatrician explained that enlarged tonsils block the airway more when kids sleep flat on their backs. He strictly advised side-sleeping to prevent mild sleep apnea. Also, please monitor if they have a fever, as that requires proper antibiotic evaluation from your doctor.

I know how terrifying it is when you hear your child struggle to breathe or gasp in their sleep. I used to stay awake checking if my son was breathing fine every ten minutes. If the snoring gets too loud or they wake up choking, please get them checked by an ENT specialist immediately.

Ah, the joys of parenting where you stay up matching your kid's snoring rhythm! We used a room humidifier to stop his throat from drying up like a desert. Hang in there, this phase passes once those tonsils settle down.

When my nephew had swollen tonsils, dinner was a struggle because he refused to swallow anything. We made him soft foods like chilled custard and warm, clear tomato soup. A happy, fed tummy definitely makes it much easier for them to fall asleep.
