How to figure calories for weight loss?

I want to start a weight loss journey but I'm not sure how many calories I should be eating daily. My friend told me it's not just about eating less, but specific calorie targets. How do I figure this out for myself?

For weight loss, eating home-cooked, simple food is always best. Avoid packaged things. You can use an app to get a rough idea of calories in your food, but honestly, portion control and cutting sweets work wonders. If you have underlying health issues, then please see a doctor.

No need for fancy dieticians to start. There are many free online calculators where you put your age, height, weight, activity level, and it tells you. Aim for about 300-500 calories less than your maintenance. But if you feel weak or unwell, stop and consult a doctor, don't push yourself too hard.

If you have thyroid issues like me, calorie calculations alone might not be enough. Hormonal balance is critical. So, track your calories, but also make sure you're getting regular thyroid checks and discussing your diet plan with your endocrinologist. It's a bit more complex.

I just used MyFitnessPal to scan everything I ate for a week. It gives you a good idea of where you stand. Then you can make small cuts. Don't go crazy though, we need energy for studies and parties na! 😂

I once followed a strict calorie diet I found online and ended up with severe hair loss and extreme fatigue. It was not worth it. Everyone's body is different. Please, for your safety, consult a doctor or a certified nutritionist. Don't risk your health for quick results.

I use an app to track my intake and an activity tracker for my burn. A good starting point is usually around 1500-1800 calories for women and 1800-2200 for men, depending on activity. But remember to include protein and strength training, not just cardio, for better results.

Don't overcomplicate it, you can start by simply observing what you eat and making healthier choices. Calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) online, and then aim to eat slightly less. But remember, good nutrition is key, not just low calories. Eat enough protein and fiber.
