How to compute pregnancy?

My husband and I are trying to conceive and I'm trying to understand my cycle better. How exactly is the timing of pregnancy calculated, like when does it officially start?

Calculating pregnancy weeks is simple once you know the rule. Always start counting from the very first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), not the day you missed or the day you conceived. Most doctors use this standard 40-week timeline, but a dating ultrasound at 8 weeks will give you the most accurate tracking.

I know how stressful it can be when you are looking at different dates and trying to figure out how far along you are. It is completely normal to feel confused and anxious about whether you are counting correctly. Just note down your last period date and discuss it with your doctor, they will guide you step by step.

Did anyone else get super confused because the pregnancy weeks count from before you actually conceived? It felt so weird to me that the first two weeks of 'pregnancy' are actually before conception. Did you guys also find it hard to explain this timeline to your family?

Look, don't make yourself crazy with online calculators. Just count the weeks starting from the first day of your last period. That is how the medical world does it. For absolute confirmation, just go get a Beta HCG blood test or a doctor's scan, simple as that.

I was just helping my cousin calculate this last month! We used a simple app to track her weeks based on her last cycle. Just remember that the doctor counts in weeks, not months, which can be a bit confusing at first. Hope everything goes smoothly for you!

The most straightforward way is to use an online gestational calculator based on your LMP (Last Menstrual Period). But let's be practical: home urine tests can have faint lines and cause unnecessary confusion. Save your time, book a gynecologist appointment, and get an ultrasound done to get the exact dates.
