How to combat weight gain from birth control?

I recently started taking birth control pills, and I've noticed some weight gain. My friend said this can happen sometimes. Is there anything I can do to prevent or manage this weight gain while on birth control?

Look, these pills alter your hormones, so some water retention is bound to happen. Don't panic and stop the pills suddenly. Talk to your doctor to see if they can change the brand, and focus on clean eating instead of eating junk under stress.

I completely agree that hormonal weight gain is very real and frustrating. Drinking lots of water and reducing sodium helped me reduce the initial bloating.

Our bodies hold onto weight when stress levels are high, especially when dealing with external hormones. Regular practice of mild yoga postures and deep pranayama really helped balance my system and slowly reduced that heavy feeling.

From what I have seen, most of the initial weight gain on birth control is actually temporary water retention, not fat. It usually stabilizes after 2 to 3 cycles. If it doesn't, your doctor can easily switch you to a low-dose formulation.

Drinking warm ginger or fennel seed tea in the morning can help ease the fluid retention and bloating caused by pills. However, if you experience sudden leg pain, chest discomfort, or severe headaches, please stop and see a doctor immediately.

I just started birth control pills two weeks ago and I feel very bloated and heavy. Is this normal in the beginning, and does this feeling go away on its own after some time? I would love to hear what others experienced.

I felt so miserable when none of my clothes fit me after starting the pill, and I hated looking in the mirror. It is emotionally very draining when you feel like you don't recognize your own body. Please know your feelings are valid, and you are not alone in this.

I suggest using a calorie tracker app for a week just to see if your appetite has increased due to the pills, which is very common. Tracking your steps and aiming for at least 8,000 steps daily can help offset any minor metabolic slowdown.

Hormones can sometimes increase your hunger cues, leading to accidental overeating. Try focusing on high-volume, low-calorie foods like salads, veggies, and lean proteins to keep you full. Staying active with some light cardio or weight training will also keep your metabolism on track.

The bloat is actually so real in the first month, yaar. I thought I gained 5 kgs instantly, but my gynecologist explained it was just fluid retention. I started drinking lots of coconut water and cut down on extra salty food, and it slowly got better.

I kept worrying that the weight gain would be permanent and it made me so anxious every time I stepped on the scale. But please don't lose hope, it is mostly just water weight in the first few months. Try to stay calm and let your body adjust.
