How to combat acid reflux in pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester and the acid reflux is just unbearable, especially after dinner. It keeps me up at night and even small meals trigger it. Is there anything safe I can do to get some relief during pregnancy?

Honestly, cutting out heavy fried food and high-spice masalas was the only thing that kept me sane during my second trimester. I started having small, simple meals every three hours instead of three big ones, mostly curd rice or light dal khichdi. Don't blindly try every home remedy though, keep your doctor updated on what you're eating.

Was just reading up on this because my cousin is expecting and struggling big time. Apparently, the hormone progesterone relaxes the stomach valve, which is why everything flows back up. Many articles suggested sitting upright for at least an hour after eating instead of lying down immediately.

I completely understand how exhausting and scary this feels, the burning in the chest used to make me so anxious at night. It is extremely common but please don't lose sleep over it. Sleeping with a wedge pillow to elevate my head really helped me handle the night flare-ups.

Please get this checked properly by your doctor rather than just tolerating it. I kept ignoring severe burning thinking it's just normal pregnancy acidity, but it turned out to be severe esophagitis which took months to heal post-delivery. If the burning is constant or making you throw up, get a proper prescription.

Oh god, that third-trimester heartburn is literally the worst! Don't stress too much, it gets completely fine once the baby is born. For now, try sipping cold milk slowly when it starts burning, it works like absolute magic.

When my wife was going through this, the doctors at Fortis told us never to take any random over-the-counter antacids without asking them first. Some common syrups aren't ideal during pregnancy. Just call your gynaecologist and let them prescribe a safe syrup, it's much safer.
