How to alleviate rib pain during pregnancy?

I am in my last trimester of pregnancy, and for the past few days, I've been experiencing significant rib pain, especially on my right side. It makes sleeping and even sitting comfortably very difficult. Is there anything safe I can do to alleviate this?

I was researching this for my sister, and apparently, rib pain is very common in the third trimester because the growing baby pushes the ribs outwards. Gentle stretching and using a pregnancy support pillow to keep your upper body elevated while resting seems to help quite a bit.

I totally get it, that sharp pain right under your bust makes it so hard to sit or breathe comfortably. Try wearing very loose, non-wired maternity bras because tight bands can squeeze the ribcage and worsen the soreness. Sending you lots of strength!

While the baby's position can cause rib pressure, please make sure you tell your gynecologist about this pain. Pain in the upper right rib area can sometimes be associated with high blood pressure issues during pregnancy, so regular checkups are a must.

Since I have PCOS, I am always extra careful about any body changes during pregnancy. Gentle pelvic tilts on a yoga ball helped release some upper body pressure for me, but please check with your doctor before doing any physical exercises.

I know how terrifying any chest or rib pain can feel when you are pregnant, it immediately makes you worry if something is wrong with you or the baby. Please take deep, slow breaths and remember that your body is stretching to do an amazing job. Talk to your doctor to ease your mind.

In my experience, putting a cold compress under my ribcage for 10 minutes gave temporary relief when the baby was kicking high. I also found that sitting up straight instead of slouching on the couch helped create more space in my abdomen.
