How soon should you wait to take a pregnancy test?

My period is now two days late, and I'm feeling a bit nauseous. I've bought a home pregnancy test. To get the most accurate result, how soon should one wait to take a pregnancy test after a missed period or suspected conception?

I suggest waiting until at least the first day of your missed period. I had some early complications in my past pregnancy, and my doctor told me that testing too early can sometimes miss things or cause unnecessary stress. If you suspect anything, it is always safest to consult your doctor directly.

My wife's gynecologist at Max Hospital told us very clearly that testing before a missed period is highly unreliable. He advised waiting at least 1 or 2 days after the missed date for a home urine test. If you are unsure, just call your doctor's clinic and they will guide you on when to come in for a proper blood test.

Unless you want to keep donating your hard-earned money to the pharmacy buy testing every day, just wait for the missed period! Your body needs time to build up the hormone, it won't happen faster just because you are staring at the test strip.

The standard recommendation is to wait until the first day of a missed menstrual cycle. Testing earlier can result in a false negative because hCG levels may not be sufficient. For your safety and accurate planning, please schedule an appointment with your doctor once you get your result.

I am currently on day 10 after ovulation and the urge to test is literally keeping me awake at night. Has anyone else felt this same level of restlessness, and did you manage to hold off until your missed period actually happened?

It is best to wait until the day of your missed period to get an accurate result on a home test.

I was just reading up on this because my partner and I were curious about how these kits work. Apparently, most medical sites say waiting 14 days after intercourse is the sweet spot because that is when the pregnancy hormone is actually high enough to register on a home strip.

I highly recommend waiting until the day of your missed period for testing. While you wait, keep your body nourished with healthy, iron-rich vegetarian foods like spinach and pomegranates, and keep your digestion light and healthy.

I completely understand how agonizing the wait can be, and how your mind just keeps running through all the possibilities every single minute. But testing too early will only increase your anxiety with faint lines or false negatives. Try to wait until your period is actually due for your own peace of mind.

Please try to wait at least 14 days from the date of intercourse before you take a home test. It can be hard to wait, but it is the best way to get a reliable result. Wishing you all the very best.

Don't rely on random online forums telling you to test 5 days after intercourse. Most of those early results are just lucky guesses or inaccurate. Wait for your actual missed period date and then verify the result with a certified gynecologist to be absolutely certain.

Waiting until a day after your missed period is the most practical choice. If you start testing too early, you will end up buying multiple kits which is a total waste of money. Better to wait, do it once, and save that money for your first doctor's appointment fee.
