How soon should you take a pregnancy test after intercourse?

We had unprotected sex a week ago, and I'm really anxious. I want to take a pregnancy test, but I don't want to get a false negative. How soon should you wait to take a pregnancy test after intercourse to ensure accuracy?

Beta, don't rush to do these chemical tests so quickly. It is best to wait for at least two weeks after your relations, or even better, wait for a full week after your missed period. Keep your body rested and avoid lifting heavy things during these days.

No point wasting money on multiple test kits by checking too early. The home kits work best around 14 days after intercourse. Just wait for your missed period date, buy one standard test from your local chemist, and do it with the first morning urine.

If you test too early, you'll end up buying three or four expensive kits out of anxiety. Just wait 14 to 15 days after intercourse, then use a single budget-friendly home kit. It is much more cost-effective and saves you from unnecessary mental stress.

I know the suspense can be really tough to handle, but testing earlier than 12-14 days after relations won't give you a correct answer. Give it a full two weeks so you don't get a false sense of security or worry needlessly. Take care of yourself.

As a general rule, a home urine test needs about 14 days after intercourse to show a reliable positive, because the hCG hormone takes that long to become concentrated. If you are really in a rush, a doctor can order a beta-hCG blood test which can detect it a few days earlier.

I always advise waiting at least 14 days because early testing can be highly unreliable, especially if you have hormonal imbalances like thyroid issues. If you get a negative but your period is still delayed, definitely consult your doctor for a blood hCG test and a thyroid check.
