How reliable are home pregnancy tests?

My sister is a few days late on her period and used a home pregnancy test which came out positive. She's really excited but also a bit nervous. How reliable are these home pregnancy tests usually?

I literally went through this last month and they are actually quite reliable if you use them correctly. Just make sure you use the very first urine in the morning because that has the highest concentration of the hormone. Mine showed a faint line on day one of my missed period and the doctor confirmed it the next day.

Honestly, with my irregular periods because of PCOS, these tests can be a bit tricky. They are mostly accurate if you test a week after your missed period, but don't blindly rely on just one kit. I always wait a few extra days and take two different brands just to be slightly more sure before getting a proper blood test done.

When my wife and we were trying, those pharmacy kits worked perfectly for us. The line was very clear both times we used it, so in our personal experience, they are quite dependable. But of course, we immediately went to our family gynecologist to double-check everything.

They are extremely reliable, but people often make mistakes while reading them. Never read the result after 10 minutes because an evaporation line can form and look like a faint positive. Stick strictly to the instruction leaflet's timing, and if you see even a faint line within 3 minutes, it is generally positive.

They are mostly 99% accurate these days, dear, so don't stress too much. Don't waste time on old-school home tricks like baking soda or salt tests because they never work. Just grab a standard kit from the local chemist and test peacefully in the morning.

Look, standard urine pregnancy tests are highly reliable, but timing is everything here. If you test too early, you might get a false negative because the hCG levels haven't built up yet. If your period is delayed by 4-5 days, any good brand from the chemist will give you a correct result.
