How much weight loss causes loose skin?

My friend lost a lot of weight quickly and now has some loose skin, which he's unhappy about. I'm also planning to lose a good amount of weight. How much weight loss typically leads to loose skin?

Loose skin can happen after significant weight loss, yes. But it's not just about the kilos, it's also about how quickly you lose them, your age, genetics, and skin elasticity. Slow and steady weight loss, combined with good hydration and gentle exercise like yoga, can help your skin adapt better.

Mere friend ne bahut weight lose kiya tha, almost 40-50 kg, aur usko thodi loose skin ka issue ho gaya tha. But he said he did it really fast, so maybe that's why. It depends on how much and how quickly, plus your age. Hydration helps too, I've heard.

It's not a fixed amount, but typically, losing a very large amount of weight (like 30 kgs or more) or losing it very rapidly increases the chance of loose skin. Age and genetics also play a huge role. Sustainable, gradual weight loss generally helps skin retract better than crash dieting.

I lost about 25 kgs over a year, and I did get some loose skin, mostly on my belly. It wasn't as bad as I feared, but it's there. I think losing it gradually helped. Staying hydrated and doing strength training also made a difference in how it looked.

I'm planning to lose around 15-20 kgs, and this is my biggest fear! Will that much weight loss definitely cause loose skin? Has anyone lost a similar amount and dealt with this? Any tips to prevent it?

I used to panic thinking any weight loss would give me loose skin! But honestly, unless you're losing a massive amount, like 30-40 kgs or more, it's often not as extreme as you see in some extreme cases online. Plus, it depends a lot on your skin's natural elasticity. Hydration and strength training can help minimize it.

This is a genuine concern for many. At my hospital, the doctors say it depends on many factors: the total weight lost, how quickly it was lost, your age, genetics, and skin elasticity. If you're planning significant weight loss, it's best to discuss this with your doctor or a dermatologist who can advise on managing it.
