How much is normal hair loss in shower?

Lately, I feel like I'm losing a lot of hair when I shampoo. I wanted to know, how much is considered normal hair loss in the shower? Just to check if my concern is valid.

Losing about fifty to one hundred strands a day is totally normal, and a lot of that loose hair comes out when you scrub your scalp in the shower. If you only wash your hair twice a week, that accumulated hair will look like a lot more at once. Just monitor if you see actual bald patches or sudden heavy shedding.

I used to freak out seeing a bunch of hair clogging the drain every time I washed it. But then my stylist told me we naturally shed a lot of hair daily, and the shower just releases what was already loose. Unless it is coming out in huge clumps, you are likely doing just fine.

I ignored my heavy hair shedding for a year thinking it was just stress or normal shower loss. By the time I went to a dermatologist, my hairline had receded quite a bit due to an underlying thyroid issue. Don't wait around if you feel the quantity of hair fall is unusually high.

Losing some hair during a wash is normal, but if it feels like your hair density is visibly reducing or parting is widening, it could be hormonal. With my PCOS, I experienced heavy shedding in the shower which only stopped after I got my hormones checked and balanced. Maybe get a simple blood panel done if you are worried.

Personally, I notice about twenty to thirty strands in the drain during my head wash days, and my doctor told me that is completely fine. It tends to increase slightly during humid weather or monsoon season. I just focus on keeping my scalp clean and avoiding harsh chemical shampoos.

Losing around fifty to eighty strands on hair wash day is very common. Just try to use a wide-tooth comb and be gentle while your hair is wet.
