How much deep sleep should a baby get?

My baby has been a bit fussy lately, and I'm trying to figure out her sleep patterns. How much deep sleep should a baby typically get at her age?

Honestly, I was stressing about this just last month with my five-month-old. They spend almost half of their sleep time in deep or REM sleep because their brains are growing so fast. Don't sit with a timer, as long as they are active during feed times, they are totally fine.

In our times, we never counted hours like this. Just keep the baby's room quiet and give them a very gentle warm mustard oil massage before bed to help them sleep deeply. If the baby is crying non-stop or not waking up for milk, then only you should consult a doctor.

Haan na, babies sleep so much but we still worry if they are getting enough deep rest. In the initial months, they don't even have a set routine. Just feed them well and keep the room dark, they will naturally sleep as much as their body needs.

I can only share what happened with my daughter. She used to sleep for almost 16 hours a day as a newborn, and it felt like she was barely awake. I just made sure she was wetting enough diapers and gaining weight properly.

When we went for our baby's vaccination at Apollo, I asked the pediatrician this exact question. She told me that babies have different sleep cycles than us and we shouldn't measure their deep sleep. Please ask your doctor during your next visit to clear your doubts.

Actually yaar, newborn sleep schedules are totally wild. There is no fixed number of deep sleep hours, they just sleep in short bursts of 2-3 hours throughout the day. Don't track it too much on apps, it will just give you unnecessary tension.

Please monitor if the baby is sleeping too much and seems very lethargic or unresponsive. I once ignored my nephew's extreme sleepiness thinking it's normal, but he had a severe fever and dehydration. If anything feels off, please get them checked immediately.

Don't worry too much. Every baby's sleep pattern is different and they usually sleep as much as they need.
