How many hours should a newborn sleep in a day?

My baby was just born last week and seems to sleep almost all the time, only waking up to feed. My mother says it's normal, but I want to be sure. How many hours should a newborn ideally sleep in a 24-hour cycle?

Newborns typically sleep a lot, but in short bursts. The general guideline is 14-17 hours in a 24-hour cycle, but some might sleep up to 19 hours. It's normal for them to wake up frequently for feeds. Always consult your pediatrician if you have specific concerns about your baby's sleep patterns or feeding.

Oh, newborns sleep SO much! It's usually around 14-17 hours a day, but it's not continuous. They wake up for feeds every few hours, day and night. So it's more like short naps throughout the day and night. Don't worry if it feels like you're not getting much sleep yourself, that's just newborn life!

Newborns typically sleep a lot, around 14-17 hours in a 24-hour period. This is normal for their growth. They will wake frequently for feeds. Just focus on keeping them fed and comfortable.

I remember panicking about this with my first! But it's totally normal for newborns to sleep a lot, like 14-17 hours a day. It's just not in long stretches, so you'll be up often. As long as they're feeding well and gaining weight, don't stress about the exact hours. They're growing so fast!

For a newborn, they need a lot of sleep, around 14 to 17 hours in a day, but in small parts, for feeding. My mother-in-law would say, 'let the baby sleep as much as they want!' But of course, if you have any worries, always check with the pediatrician. Their advice is always best.

For newborns, health guidelines and even baby tracking apps suggest around 14-17 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. It's usually not continuous, with frequent wake-ups for feeding. Keeping track of their sleep-wake cycles and feeding times can give you a good overview. It's all about their rapid development at this stage.

Newborns? Oh, they're basically professional sleepers! About 14-17 hours a day is typical, but in tiny chunks. The parents, on the other hand, get about 2-3 hours if they're lucky! Just kidding... mostly. Keep them fed and comfy, and they'll sleep their quota, eventually!

The newborn phase is tough, and worrying about their sleep is completely normal. They really do sleep a huge amount, like 14-17 hours a day, but it's in short cycles of 2-4 hours. It feels like you're never sleeping, but that's just how it is. You're doing great, don't feel like you're alone in this struggle.
