Newborns sleep a lot, typically between 14 to 17 hours in a 24-hour period. But it's usually in short bursts, not continuously. They wake up frequently for feeds.
When my son was a newborn, he slept what felt like constantly, but never for more than 2-3 hours at a stretch! In total, it was probably around 15-16 hours a day. It's a challenging time for parents because their sleep is so broken.
I totally get it, new parents are always wondering about this! Newborns generally sleep for about 14 to 17 hours a day. But it's not like adult sleep; it's short cycles of sleeping and waking, mainly for feeding. So, the parents don't get continuous sleep.
Newborns are like tiny athletes, they need a lot of rest for their rapid growth and development! They typically sleep 14-17 hours in a day, but it's important for parents to manage their own rest too. Light walks and fresh air can help parents cope with the broken sleep, if their doctor permits.

My daughter was a newborn terror for sleep, haha! But normally, they sleep around 14-17 hours in 24 hours. They just wake up every 2-3 hours for feeds. Try to 'sleep when the baby sleeps' even if it's just for half an hour, it helps a lot.
