How long is surgery for kidney stones?

My father needs surgery for kidney stones, and we're trying to schedule it. He's a bit nervous about how long he'll be in the operating room. Roughly how long does this kind of surgery take?

Namaste! The duration of surgery for kidney stones depends a lot on the type of procedure and the size/location of the stone. For lithotripsy, it might be an hour or less. For ureteroscopy, maybe 30 minutes to an hour. More complex surgeries can take longer. Your doctor will explain the exact time during your consultation.

For something like surgery, exact timings are very important and highly dependent on the individual case. Please do not rely on general internet answers. Your urologist is the only one who can give you an accurate estimate based on the size, location, and number of your kidney stones, and the specific surgical technique they plan to use. Always verify with your doctor.

Kidney stone surgery doesn't have one fixed time. It depends if it's a small stone and they break it with sound waves, or if they need to go in. Could be half an hour, could be more than an hour. The doctor will tell you the exact plan after checking everything.

The surgery time for kidney stones can vary quite a bit, from a quick 30-minute procedure for smaller stones to a couple of hours for more complex cases or larger stones. What's more crucial is the recovery afterward. Post-op, focusing on hydration and light activity (once cleared by the doctor) helps a lot.
