How long does pain last after total knee replacement?

My uncle had a total knee replacement a few weeks back, and he's still complaining about significant pain. We're wondering what the normal duration of pain is for this. How long does pain last after total knee replacement?

The severe pain takes about 4 to 6 weeks to calm down. While you are resting, it is hard to resist oily snacks, but try to stick to light home-cooked meals like vegetable dalia or clear soups. Good food will help your body heal faster without making you feel heavy.

My father is advised to undergo a knee replacement next month and we are quite nervous. Does the intense pain stay even while sitting down, or is it only when trying to walk? I would really appreciate any guidance.

The pain is quite severe for the first few weeks, which is normal, but you must monitor it closely. If you notice sudden swelling in your calf, redness around the knee, or a fever, please contact your hospital immediately. These can be signs of a clot or infection.

I am on week 3 after my knee replacement and the night pain is still very bad. I feel so anxious thinking if my recovery is delayed compared to others. Does anyone else also struggle to sleep because of the throbbing at night?

Beta, this is a very big operation, so the pain will take at least one to two months to go away. Do not worry, just do your exercises slowly as the doctor told you. Keep faith, you will be walking comfortably very soon.

The main surgical pain stays for about a month, but you will feel a dull ache for up to 3 months. To make life easier, arrange your bedroom on the ground floor and keep a sturdy, high chair with armrests ready. These small adjustments make a huge difference in managing daily pain.
