How long does pain last after knee replacement?

I'm considering knee replacement surgery, but I'm worried about the recovery and pain. Can anyone share how long does pain typically last after a knee replacement operation?

Surgical pain is quite intense for the first 2 to 4 weeks, but it gets better. To help recovery, keep your nutrition clean with good protein to heal tissues and stick strictly to your daily physiotherapy exercises. Movement is medicine, as long as your doctor approves it.

The main pain lasts for about 6 weeks, but the therapy goes on for months. Since home physio visits can cost a lot of money, try to learn the exercises properly from the hospital therapist during your stay. This way, you can do them safely at home and save on those daily fees.

It takes about 2 to 3 months for the deep pain to go away, and it requires a lot of patience. I found that icing the knee for 15 minutes before and after the exercise sessions helped reduce the swelling and pain significantly. Just take it slow and steady.

Listen, this is a major joint surgery, so don't expect the pain to vanish in a week. It will easily take 6 to 12 weeks for the soreness to settle. Don't skip your pain medicines early just because you feel a bit better, otherwise, you won't be able to do physiotherapy.

In my line of work, I see many patients going through this. The acute pain usually peaks in the first week and starts fading by week 4, but mild swelling can persist for up to 6 months. Take your prescribed pain meds 30 minutes before your physical therapy sessions to manage the pain better.

Hey, don't stress too much about the recovery timeline! The first few weeks are definitely tough, but after a month, you will see a massive difference. Just keep doing your exercises and celebrating the small wins every day.
