How long does metformin take to work for weight loss?

My doctor prescribed metformin for my blood sugar, and also mentioned it might help with weight loss. I'm curious, how long does it usually take for metformin to start showing effects for weight loss? I'm hoping to see some change.

Metformin is primarily prescribed for insulin resistance or diabetes, and weight loss is a gradual side effect rather than a primary function. It usually takes about 3 to 6 months of consistent use alongside diet changes to see any noticeable weight reduction. Please stick to your doctor's prescribed dosage.

I was prescribed metformin for my PCOS weight gain. It took nearly 2 months of daily use before the scale finally started moving down slowly. Don't lose hope, it takes time to regulate your hormones first!

It takes at least 4 to 6 months to see real weight loss with metformin. You must combine it with a low-carb diet for it to work.

Beta, my doctor gave me this tablet for sugar and told me it will also help reduce weight slowly. It took almost 3 months for me to feel lighter. Eat simple ghar ka khana and don't rush it.

My sister suggested many home remedies for weight loss, but I followed my diabetologist's advice on metformin. It took about 4 months to show a gradual reduction of 4 kgs. Patience and proper checkups are key.

Actually yaar, don't expect instant results like those crash diets. Metformin works slowly on your insulin levels, so you will see proper results only after 3 or 4 months. Just hang in there!
