How long does it take to recover from a pregnancy?

I had my baby a few weeks ago and I'm still feeling very tired and sore, especially my back. My mother-in-law says it takes time. How long does it usually take for a woman's body to fully recover after delivery?

Clinically they say it takes 6 to 8 weeks, but honestly, as a parent, I feel like my wife and I are still recovering and our kid is in college now! Jokes apart, give your body at least a year to fully regain its original strength and energy.

The initial tissue healing takes about 6 weeks, which is when you have your postpartum checkup. However, complete bone, muscle, and hormonal recovery takes about a full year. Keep taking your iron and calcium supplements as advised, even after delivery.

In our tradition, we focus on a 40-day rest period with warm ginger-carom water and nutritional ladoos for recovery. This helps the internal healing. But remember, if you have severe bleeding, high fever, or sharp pelvic pain, skip the home remedies and consult your doctor immediately.

I panicked so much when I was still in pain and feeling weak at 3 months postpartum. But my gynecologist reassured me that it is completely normal and takes up to a year for the body to fully bounce back. Don't worry, your strength will return slowly.

While basic healing takes 6 to 8 weeks, rebuilding your nutrient stores takes a year. Focus on high-protein vegetarian foods like paneer, ragi, and a variety of dals to heal your muscles. Avoid any calorie-restrictive diets early on, especially if you are breastfeeding.
