How long does it take to heal after pregnancy?

I recently had my baby and I'm still feeling a lot of discomfort and fatigue. My sister-in-law said it takes time to recover. How long does it generally take for a woman's body to heal completely after pregnancy and delivery?

The physical wounds might close in 6 to 8 weeks, but emotionally, it can take a year or even longer to feel like yourself again. I cried so much in those early months feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. Please give yourself grace, healing is not a race and your feelings are completely valid.

It takes about 6 weeks for the basic internal healing, but practically, your body takes a year to get its strength back. Don't run behind expensive post-pregnancy packages. Just focus on simple warm home-cooked meals, gentle pelvic floor exercises, and sleeping whenever the baby sleeps.

They say 6 weeks is the standard time, but I am at 4 months post-partum and still feel so weak and achy in my joints. Did anyone else also feel like their body just wouldn't snap back? I get so worried seeing other moms online looking so active.

From a fitness perspective, your core and pelvic floor need at least 8 to 12 weeks of gentle recovery before you even think of lifting weights or doing high-impact workouts. Focus on nutrient-dense foods and light walking first. Let your doctor give you the green light before starting any proper exercise routine.

Beta, real healing takes a whole year. In our villages, we give the new mother 40 days of complete rest, warm gond ladoos, and haldi doodh to regain strength. Don't rush to do house work, take good care of your health right now so you don't face body pain later.

While the physical recovery takes about 6 to 8 weeks, postpartum thyroiditis is very common and can make you feel extremely fatigued and weak for months. I struggled with severe hair fall and exhaustion after my delivery, and it turned out to be a thyroid issue. Please get your routine blood tests done and follow up with your doctor.

Having gone through two deliveries, I can tell you that 6 weeks is just the clinical timeline for the uterus to shrink back. Real muscular and bone recovery takes at least a year. My tip is to not skip your calcium and iron supplements for at least 6 months post-delivery, it makes a huge difference in your recovery.
