How long does it take to get thyroid biopsy results?

I had a thyroid biopsy done last week for a nodule. The doctor said they'd call, but I'm getting impatient. How long does it usually take to get the results back from a thyroid biopsy?

Biopsy results (FNAC) usually take about 3 to 7 working days to come from the pathology lab. Don't worry or read scary articles online during this time. Most thyroid nodules turn out to be completely harmless, so take it easy and let the report come.

It takes about 5 days, which is basically the speed of a typical government department! Just use this week to binge-watch a new series instead of analyzing your neck in the mirror. No news is good news until the paper is in your hand!

For me, the e-report was uploaded on my health app in exactly 4 days. Most big diagnostics chains have online portals now, so you can track the status in real-time. It saves you the trip of going to the clinic just to collect the physical paper.

Usually, the pathology lab takes 3 to 5 days to process the tissue slides and write the cytopathology report. If the sample was insufficient, they might ask for a repeat, so don't panic if there is a minor delay. Just stay in touch with your clinic.

I literally lost sleep for 6 days waiting for my FNAC report, thinking the worst. When the report finally came, it was just a benign cyst that required zero treatment. The 5-day wait is standard procedure, so please don't stress yourself out like I did.

These reports take about a week to arrive from the laboratory. While you wait, you can drink warm coriander seed water (dhaniya paani) in the morning, which is traditionally good for thyroid health. But remember, the final word lies in what the biopsy report says, so wait for the doctor.
