How long does it take to get tb results?

My cousin got tested for TB yesterday, and he's anxious about the results. How long does it usually take for them to come back? He's quite stressed.

From what I have read online, it depends on the type of test. A rapid molecular test (like GeneXpert) can give results in just 24 hours, but a traditional sputum culture can take up to 6 weeks. It's quite a wide range depending on what the lab is doing.

Most modern labs give the skin test results in 48 to 72 hours, while blood tests take about 2 days. While you wait, keep eating a clean, balanced diet to keep your body's defense systems strong. Stay consistent with your basic fitness routine if you feel up to it.

I went through this last year. My GeneXpert sputum report came in exactly 1 day, which helped me start my DOTS treatment immediately. Go to a certified government lab or a reputed private hospital for faster and more accurate reporting.

Don't stress yourself out while waiting for the reports. The basic skin test requires you to go back to the clinic after 2 to 3 days for them to check the swelling. Just take deep breaths, avoid crowded places, and let the doctors do their job.

I totally get it, waiting for medical reports can make you feel extremely anxious and restless. Sputum smear results usually come in 1 to 2 days, so you won't have to wait too long for the initial screening. Hang in there, you are stronger than you think.

In my case, the hospital took 48 hours to give me the blood test results for TB. I didn't want to rely on internet searches, so I just waited for the official report and let my doctor guide me on the next steps. It was much easier that way.

My doctor has advised a TB test for my grandmother and I am a bit scared. Does the skin test hurt a lot when they inject it? How many days do we have to wait before we can show the reports to the doctor?

I completely lost my peace of mind when the lab said the culture test would take 4 weeks, thinking my condition was severe. But then my doctor explained that TB bacteria grow very slowly in the lab, which is completely normal. The rapid tests are much quicker, so ask your clinic for those.
