How long does covid hair loss last?

I had COVID a few months ago and ever since, my hair has been falling out like crazy. It's really thinning, and I'm quite distressed. How long does this post-COVID hair loss usually last? Will it eventually grow back?

For me, the heavy shedding started two months after Covid and lasted for nearly 4 months. When I visited my dermatologist at Kokilaben Hospital, she explained it is called Telogen Effluvium and is temporary. Please consult a proper specialist instead of trying random lotions.

I can only share what happened to me. My hair started falling out in bunches exactly two months after my Covid fever went down. The intense shedding phase lasted for about 3 and a half months before it returned to my normal daily shedding rate.

Listen, don't lose sleep over this. This hair loss usually starts 2-3 months after you recover from Covid and can go on for 3 to 6 months. It looks scary when you wash your hair, but trust me, it stops on its own once the body recovers its strength.

I see this question asked so often here, and the answer is almost always the same. For most of us in the community, the shedding peaks around 3 months and then gradually stops by the 6th month. Eat a protein-rich diet and give your hair some time to regrow naturally.

Stop buying expensive 'anti-hairfall' shampoos and oils off the internet, they don't do anything for post-viral shedding. This is an internal body reaction to high fever and stress. Go get your iron, B12, and thyroid levels checked by a doctor instead of guessing.

I know how heartbreaking it is to see so much hair on the floor; I went through the same thing for 4 months. I tried onion juice and curd packs, but honestly, what worked best was keeping my diet rich in lentils, spinach, and paneer. It takes time, but your body will heal.

I was losing clumps of hair every single day after my Covid recovery, and I was so depressed. It started around November and finally stopped shedding around March. Now, I can see lots of tiny baby hairs growing back, so please have patience.

In our days, we knew that any big illness or high fever weakens the hair roots for 3 to 4 months. We used to gently massage the scalp with lukewarm coconut oil infused with curry leaves. Eat regular amla and almonds, and do not use chemical styling during this recovery time.

I've been reading a lot about this online because my cousin is going through it. Most medical forums say it peaks around 3 to 4 months post-infection and then stops. It seems to be a super common post-viral reaction, so you are definitely not alone in this.

Actually, it is super common, yaar. My sister was losing hair like crazy for almost 5 months after Covid and she was totally stressed out. But her doc told her to just take multivitamin supplements, and now her hair is completely back to normal.

Over the years, I have seen that any major physical trauma or high fever takes a toll on the body, showing up as hair loss months later. For most people, it naturally stabilizes in 5 to 6 months. Do not worry, your body is resilient and will restore itself.
