How long can a baby sleep in a bassinet?

We bought a bassinet for our new baby, and it's been great for keeping him close at night. I'm wondering when he'll outgrow it, though. How long can a baby safely sleep in a bassinet before needing to move to a crib?

They can sleep in a bassinet until about 4 to 5 months, or until they start rolling over and trying to escape. Once my little one started moving, that bassinet looked like a tiny cage for a baby wrestler! Time to move them to a proper crib before they do any acrobatics.

My son used his bassinet until he was exactly 4 and a half months old. Once he started rolling over and pushing up on his hands, we immediately transitioned him to a wooden crib. It is a safety issue, so keep a close watch on their movement milestones.

Usually, a baby can stay in a bassinet for about 4 months. Just like we need to regularly monitor our thyroid levels and visit the doctor, you must constantly monitor your baby's physical milestones. The moment they can sit up or roll, they must be shifted to a crib for safety.

I panicked when my baby turned 3 months and looked too big for the bassinet, thinking it would affect his spine. But my pediatrician reassured me that as long as they haven't reached the weight limit or started rolling, it is perfectly fine. They usually transition around 4-6 months, so don't worry.

Please don't ignore the safety weight limits of your bassinet like I once did with my first child. I kept using it for too long, and one night the base almost buckled because the baby had grown too heavy. Always check the manufacturer's manual and move them to a crib early.

They can safely sleep in a bassinet for about 3 to 4 months. Just like we ensure clean, healthy inputs for our body, make sure the bassinet has a firm, flat mattress with no loose blankets. Safe sleep environment is just as important as good nutrition.

Honestly, don't stress too much about the exact day, but 4 months is the average time. Once they start rolling over on their tummy, that is your cue to shift them to a crib. Enjoy these cozy bassinet days while they last, they grow up so fast!
