How long before period can you take a pregnancy test?

My periods are usually regular, but this month they are a bit delayed. I'm wondering if I can take a pregnancy test already. How many days before my expected period can I take a pregnancy test and still get accurate results?

I know how stressful it is to count down the days and want to test as early as possible. Some early response tests say 5 days before, but it often gives a false negative which is so heartbreaking. It is much gentler on your emotions to wait until your period is actually late.

You can technically take it up to 4 to 5 days before your expected period, but the results are not very reliable then. I always advise waiting until the actual day of your missed period to avoid wrong results. Do not rely on any home methods, only use a proper shop-bought kit.

With PCOS, our cycles are already so irregular, so testing before a predicted period is very tricky. I don't want to give any definitive advice, but waiting at least 14 days after ovulation is safer. It is always best to check with your gynaecologist if your periods are delayed.

Be practical and wait until the day of your missed period. Testing early only leads to double-checking and wasted time with unreliable results. If you need urgent confirmation for any medical reason, a blood test at a lab is much quicker and accurate.

Actually, testing early is just a waste of kits, yaar. Even if you test 2 days before your period, the line can be so faint that you will get confused. Just wait for the missed day and do it first thing in the morning.

It is completely normal to feel super anxious and want to test early, I have been there too. But testing 4-5 days early often leads to obsessive overthinking over faint lines. For your own peace of mind, try to wait until the day your period is due.
