I used to drink warm ginger water and try different herbs for my breathing issues, but nothing helped until I got a spirometry test. It basically measures how much air you can blow out in one quick second. If your airflow improves significantly after using an inhaler during the test, it confirms asthma.

Having to blow into that tube as hard as you can when you already feel breathless is so exhausting and emotionally draining. I remember crying during my first test because it felt like my lungs were failing. It is a tough test, but getting the right numbers is the only way to start breathing normally again.

Spirometry tests your FEV1 and FVC ratio, which basically shows if there is any airway obstruction. It is like measuring your lung horsepower! Even if you have mild asthma, getting these numbers helps you plan your workouts and cardio routines safely without over-exhausting yourself.

I agree, it is all about comparing your lung capacity before and after using a bronchodilator spray during the test.

I am not an expert, but my doctor had mentioned spirometry is the most reliable way to check lung function. They look at the volume of air you can exhale quickly. Please consult a proper pulmonologist who can interpret the graphs correctly for you.

Basically, if your FEV1/FVC ratio is below 70%, it indicates some airway block. During the test, they give you a puff of asthma medicine and test you again after 15 minutes; a 12% or more improvement is a classic sign of asthma. Just make sure you don't use your regular inhalers on the morning of the test.

Oh God, I read so much about lung capacity online and started panicking that my breathing issues were serious. The spirometry test can look intimidating with all those digital graphs, but the technicians are very patient. Just follow their instructions and try not to worry too much before the test.
