How far along into pregnancy can you tell the gender?

We're having our first baby, and my mother-in-law is very keen on knowing the gender. We're still quite early in the pregnancy. At what stage can you usually find out the baby's gender?

The baby's parts are developed enough around 18-20 weeks, but since we are in India, legal rules mean we can never know until delivery day! Honestly, I was too busy craving hot samosas and cold rabri during my second trimester to worry about anything else.

It can be seen on scans around the 5th month, but because of the strict laws in India, no doctor will disclose it. Did anyone else feel super anxious during the level 2 scan wondering if everything with the baby's heart and organs was absolutely fine?

Though development happens by the 20th week scan, remember that gender checks are illegal in India. Don't worry about that, but please make sure you never miss your routine scans. I once missed a crucial test thinking everything was fine, and it led to major complications later.

Legally, you cannot find out the baby's gender in India at any month of pregnancy. Just focus on your health.

The anatomy is clear by the 18th week, but as per Indian law, doctors cannot disclose the gender. When my wife was pregnant, we just focused entirely on the baby's growth and weight on the ultrasound. Keep eating healthy and stay stress-free.

Whether it is a boy or a girl is decided by nature, but in our country, finding out beforehand is not permitted by law. Keep your mind peaceful and accept whatever blessing comes your way. Take care of your health and stay happy.
