How does the liver process alcohol?

Had a small party last night and ended up having a few drinks. I often wonder how our body handles it. Can someone explain in simple terms how the liver processes alcohol and what exactly happens inside?

The liver uses enzymes to break down alcohol into acetaldehyde, which is toxic, and then quickly converts it into harmless acetate. It is a very demanding process for the body, so moderation is key.

I used to drink heavily until my liver enzymes spiked. The liver can only process about one standard drink per hour; anything more just circulates in your blood and damages liver cells. My advice is to give your body a break and avoid back-to-back drinking sessions.

I just got my liver reports back after cutting out alcohol for three months, and my fatty liver has resolved. The liver works overtime using enzymes to break down alcohol, which stops it from burning fats. If you want your liver to heal, giving up alcohol is the best decision.

Yes, the liver uses ADH enzymes to metabolize alcohol, but it takes a heavy toll. Drinking lots of water between drinks helps reduce the dehydration stress on your liver.

When we drink, the liver stops its regular work to prioritize filtering out the alcohol because it treats it as a poison. This puts a lot of stress on the organ. Eating a healthy, balanced meal before having a drink helps slow down alcohol absorption.

Hey, don't stress too much, but just remember your liver has to work super hard to clean out alcohol. It breaks it down into water and carbon dioxide eventually, but it takes time. Just stay hydrated and try to keep those drinking nights to a minimum, okay?

Processing alcohol creates highly toxic byproducts that can cause inflammation and scarring, leading to cirrhosis over time. I saw my brother suffer from severe liver complications due to drinking. Please get regular liver function tests done and consult a doctor if you feel constant fatigue or abdominal pain.
