How does hepatitis c affect the body?

A friend's relative was diagnosed with Hepatitis C a while back, and I'm trying to understand the illness better. How does Hepatitis C affect the body in the long run? Does it mainly impact the liver, or other organs too?

Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that primarily causes inflammation of the liver. My doctor friend explained that it often remains asymptomatic for decades, silently causing liver scarring (cirrhosis) or even liver failure. Early detection through an HCV antibody test is vital.

I was diagnosed with Hep C last year during a routine blood donation camp. It made me feel extremely fatigued and gave me mild abdominal discomfort, but otherwise, I had no clue. Thankfully, the new direct-acting antiviral pills cured me completely in 12 weeks.

It is completely natural to feel anxious when researching how Hep C affects your body, especially with all the scary terms like liver cirrhosis online. It does cause chronic liver inflammation, but worrying will only affect your health more. Please take it one step at a time and consult a specialist.

I totally get it, hearing about a liver-damaging virus like Hepatitis C can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. It slowly affects the liver's ability to filter toxins, leading to fatigue and jaundice. Please stay strong and know that modern medicines can cure it fully.

Since Hepatitis C puts a lot of load on your liver, keeping your overall metabolic health in check is very important. Eating a clean diet and doing mild exercises like daily walking can support your liver, provided your doctor permits it during treatment.

I panicked like crazy when my father was diagnosed with Hep C, thinking it was an untreatable death sentence. But after talking to the hepatologist, we found out it is highly treatable now with simple oral medications. He is doing absolutely fine now, so please don't worry.
