How does caffeine affect pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester, and I love my morning chai. My mother-in-law keeps telling me to cut down on caffeine completely. How does caffeine truly affect pregnancy and the baby? Is a small amount okay, or should I stop entirely?

Giving up that morning strong filter coffee or cold brew during pregnancy must be so tough for coffee lovers! Caffeine travels straight through the placenta, which is why experts say to go easy on it. Maybe try decaf or some tasty fruit smoothies to satisfy that morning drink craving.

Too much caffeine is not good because it can pass to the baby and affect their heart rate. A simple solution is to limit yourself to just one small cup of light chai or coffee in the morning. Replacing your extra tea cravings with coconut water or buttermilk is a very practical way to stay safe.

Since I have PCOS, I was always very cautious about how hormones and caffeine react in my body. During pregnancy, high caffeine is linked to low birth weight, so doctors usually advise keeping it under 200mg a day. I kept my consumption very minimal just to be on the safer side.

I used to feel so guilty and anxious every time I took even a small sip of tea during my pregnancy, because of all the scary things written online. It's really hard emotionally when you have to restrict everything you love. Just know that a small, limited amount is generally safe, so don't beat yourself up over it.

Please be extremely careful with caffeine intake. I had a very difficult pregnancy with complications, and my gynaecologist strictly banned all coffee, dark chocolate, and colas to prevent any spikes in my blood pressure. Every body is different, so please consult your doctor to know what limit is safe for you.

In our time, we were told to avoid hot, stimulating drinks like strong tea and coffee during pregnancy because they cause acidity and body heat. It is much better to drink warm milk with a little badam or fresh fruit juices. If you must have tea, make it very light and only once a day.

Every pregnancy is unique, and only your gynecologist can tell you how much caffeine is safe based on your blood reports. Talk to them and ignore online rumors.

Hey, don't worry too much, you don't have to completely stop your favorite tea or coffee. Just be a bit mindful and keep it to one cup a day, as high caffeine can affect the baby's sleep and birth weight. Take care of yourself, stay relaxed, and you will do great.
