How does alcohol affect the liver function?

My friend has been drinking quite a bit lately, and I'm worried about his health. He keeps saying it's fine, but I've heard alcohol can really damage the liver. Can someone explain how exactly it impacts liver function over time?

Basically, your liver has to work extra hours to process all that alcohol and clear it out. Over time, this constant load causes fat to build up there, which can lead to swelling or scarring. It is always better to keep a check on your liver enzymes through a simple blood test if you drink regularly.

My father always used to say that what we put inside our body should build it up, not wear it down. Alcohol can slowly damage the liver cells without showing any early signs at all. It is very important to get regular checkups and follow whatever your doctor advises regarding liver health.

I was just searching about this yesterday on medical blogs. It seems the liver prioritizes breaking down alcohol over everything else, which means other metabolic functions get put on hold. Quite fascinating how one organ manages so much, but yeah, too much load definitely damages it.

I was actually reading about this recently because my uncle was diagnosed with fatty liver. Does even occasional social drinking of mild beer affect the liver in the same way? I'm a bit confused about how much limit is considered safe.

From a diet perspective, alcohol is just empty calories that puts a huge filtration burden on your liver. It stops the liver from properly processing other nutrients and burning fat. Honestly, staying away from it or keeping it very minimal is the best gift you can give your digestive system.

Look, the liver is a very resilient organ and can repair itself to some extent, but only if you don't overload it constantly. Don't stress too much if you have had drinks occasionally, but do make healthy choices from now on. Just drink plenty of water, eat fresh food, and give your body the rest it needs.
