How do you measure pregnancy weeks?

Just found out I'm pregnant, and I'm a little confused about how to count the weeks. My last period was a while ago, so how do doctors usually calculate the pregnancy duration? Any tips for a first-timer?

Look, it is simple. Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period, not from the day you conceived. Don't confuse yourself with online calculations, just tell your doctor your last period date and they will give you the exact week.

My wife had gestational diabetes, so knowing the exact pregnancy week was critical to plan her sugar tests and diet properly. The doctor counted the weeks based on her last cycle, which helped us track when to do the glucose tolerance tests. Always confirm the weeks with your gynaecologist.

I completely understand how stressful it is to count weeks and worry if the baby is growing fine. I used to check my calendar ten times a day out of anxiety. The best way to get peace of mind is to trust the ultrasound dates given by your doctor rather than overthinking the math yourself.

Since I have PCOS, my periods were always irregular, so counting from my last period didn't work for me at all. In such cases, the early ultrasound scan is the only reliable way to measure the correct pregnancy weeks. Please talk to your doctor so they can schedule a scan for you.

This is such a beautiful phase of your life, stay positive and happy. Usually, it is calculated from your last cycle date, but don't stress over the exact numbers. Take good care of your health, eat well, and let nature do its work under your doctor's loving care.

Actually, it is a bit confusing initially yaar. We think it starts from the day we got a positive test, but doctors start counting from your last period's start date. Best is to download a good pregnancy app, put your LMP date, and it keeps updating you every week automatically.

It is very normal to have doubts about this in the beginning. Your gynaecologist will do a dating scan which will tell you the exact weeks of development. Wish you all the best and a healthy pregnancy.

I just delivered my baby boy last month so I remember this clearly! The doctors always count the weeks starting from your LMP (Last Menstrual Period). Even if you feel the calculation is a bit ahead of your actual conception, that is how the medical world counts those 40 weeks.
