How do you get rid of heartburn during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and the heartburn has become unbearable, especially after dinner. I've tried avoiding spicy food, but it doesn't always work. Are there any safe and effective ways to get rid of heartburn during pregnancy?

During pregnancy, internal pressure increases and that triggers a lot of acidity and heartburn. In my experience with lifestyle issues, eating small portions frequently and avoiding lying down right after meals helps a lot. Make sure to keep your doctor updated during your regular BP and sugar checkups.

I agree that small, frequent meals are the best way to handle this. Drinking coconut water in the afternoon also really helped soothe my stomach when I was expecting.

With tight office schedules, it's easy to get acidity, especially when pregnant. The most practical solution is to avoid spicy lunch boxes and keep some roasted fennel seeds (saunf) handy to chew after meals. Try to walk for 10 minutes post-lunch instead of sitting at your desk immediately.

My daughter suffered terribly from this in her third trimester. I used to give her a small glass of cold milk to sip slowly whenever she felt the burning sensation, and it worked like magic. Also, try to keep your head elevated with an extra pillow while sleeping.

I was reading that pregnancy hormones actually relax the valve at the top of the stomach, which is why acid slips up so easily. It is crazy how common this is even if you eat completely healthy food. Has anyone tried sleeping on their left side to help reduce this?
