How do you contract strep b in pregnancy?

My gynaecologist mentioned screening for Strep B during my pregnancy, and I'm a bit nervous. How does a pregnant woman contract Strep B? I want to understand the source and how to prevent it, if possible, for the baby's sake.

I was so incredibly anxious when I heard about Group B Strep during my pregnancy. It is actually a bacterium that naturally lives in the gastrointestinal or vaginal tract of about 25% of healthy women, and it is not a sexually transmitted disease. Please don't worry, your doctor will test you around week 36 and manage it easily if you are positive.

Hey there! Just wanted to reassure you that you don't 'catch' Group B Strep from anywhere—it's just a normal bacteria that comes and goes in our body. Doctors routine check for this around the third trimester, so stay happy and positive!

May God bless you and your baby with good health. This bacteria is naturally present in some mothers' bodies and is not caused by any mistake of yours. Keep your mind peaceful, trust the doctors, and they will take complete care of you and the little one during delivery.

When I was pregnant, I was too busy planning my next pani puri craving to worry about bacteria! But my gynecologist explained that Strep B is just a natural resident in our digestive system, nothing we got from food or outside. It's super common and very simple for them to handle at the hospital.

During my pregnancy walks, I used to discuss these tests with other moms. Group B Strep is just a bacteria that naturally colonizes the body, not an infection you actively contract. Keep up your gentle prenatal exercises, eat well, and let your doctor do the standard late-pregnancy screening.

My obstetrician explained that Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common bacterium found in the vagina or rectum of healthy pregnant women. It is not foodborne or sexually transmitted, but simply part of natural body flora. If a mother carries GBS, the doctor will administer IV antibiotics during labor to protect the newborn from exposure.

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and just heard about this test today. Since it is a bacteria that is already present in our body, does it cause any discomfort or symptoms to the mother before birth? I am a bit shy to ask my gynecologist so many questions at my next visit.
