How do liver spots form?

Lately, I've noticed a few dark spots appearing on my hands and face, especially after spending time outside. My friend called them 'liver spots'. I'm wondering what causes these spots to form on the skin as we get older.

Despite the name, liver spots have absolutely nothing to do with your liver. They are actually just areas of increased pigmentation caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun. It is always wise to have a dermatologist check them to rule out any other skin issues.

They form due to sun damage over the years, which accelerates melanin production in those spots. Since I travel a lot for meetings, applying a good SPF 50 sunscreen daily has helped me prevent new ones from appearing. Don't waste time on home remedy pastes; sunscreen is your best defense.

Don't listen to people telling you to apply lemon juice or baking soda on them, you will just burn your skin. These spots are deep-seated melanin deposits from sun exposure. If they are changing shape or color, skip the internet hacks and see a proper dermatologist.

They are just harmless age spots caused by years of sun exposure, not liver damage. Best to use a good sunscreen daily.

Honestly, I used to think they meant something was wrong with the liver, but my biology professor cleared that up. It is just melanin clumping together because of too much sun. Basically, wear your sunscreen guys, even if it is cloudy!

My husband started getting these flat brown spots on his hands and arms. Our doctor assured us they are harmless age spots caused by sun exposure over many years. Now we make sure everyone in the family uses sunscreen whenever we step out.
